Alumni Teaching Excellence Awards
Nominations for 2020-2021 are now closed.
The Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching & Alumni Teaching Excellence Awards are given to four faculty members each year in recognition of their outstanding teaching efforts. Three awards are presented by the University, and a fourth is presented by the UNC system.
Eligible faculty members who received 2019-2020 teaching awards from their College or School will be automatically nominated for the 2020-2021 Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching & Alumni Teaching Excellence Awards.
Nominations may be submitted by Faculty, Staff, Students, and Alumni. Faculty are also highly encouraged to submit nominations on their own behalf.

UNC Board of Governors
Excellence in Teaching Award
Open to tenured faculty members who have completed at least seven years of teaching at UNCG. The BOG Award is the highest post-secondary award in the state and carries the expectation that applicants will be exceptional teachers who have extended their pedagogical activities beyond the classroom. The award recognizes outstanding teaching (including online or blended instruction, mentorship and educational service) that has resulted in the advancement of the profession. The Board of Governors presents one faculty member from each UNC school with this award every year. The award brings statewide recognition.

Mary Settle Sharp Award
for Teaching Excellence
Open to tenured faculty members who have completed at least three years of teaching at UNCG. The award recognizes outstanding teaching (including online or blended instruction, and mentorship) at UNCG.

James Y. Joyner Award
for Teaching Excellence
Open to untenured, tenure-track faculty members who have completed at least three years of teaching at UNCG. The award recognizes outstanding teaching (including online or blended instruction, and mentorship) at UNCG.
Classical Studies
Anna Maria Gove Award
for Teaching Excellence
Open to any full-time non-tenure-track faculty member (lecturer, academic professional, clinical faculty, etc.) who has completed at least three years of teaching at UNCG. The award recognizes outstanding teaching (including online or blended instruction) at UNCG.
