Welcome to the Residential Colleges at UNCG! While Residential College courses and co-curricular programs will look different this semester, please know that we are here to help you when the need arises and answer any questions you have! You should check your University email and Canvas OFTEN for course-specific instructions, updates, and due dates, as well as information about co-curricular activities and opportunities available to you in your Residential College. If you have questions about your course or require accommodations of any kind, please talk to your instructor (see list of contact emails below). COVID 19:

UNCG is posting COVID 19 related information and updates here. This site serves as a one-stop shop for information and resources related to the University’s ongoing response to the pandemic. This website will be updated with the latest news and resources. It is important that we work together and engage in all of the behaviors we know prevent the spread of the virus – handwashing, staying home when ill, social distancing, wearing face coverings, and showing we care about each other by doing what is right to help fight COVID-19.

Remember to Wear, Wash, and Wait. This includes:

• Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, rubbing over front and back of hands for 20 seconds.
• Avoid close contact with people by remaining six feet apart.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others.
• Cover your cough with a tissue or sneeze/cough into your elbow.
• Do not share food.
• Disinfect frequently touched objects using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
• Stay home when you are sick and avoid close contact with those who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

SOCIAL DISTANCING: If individuals are in shared spaces at the same time, they should wear face coverings and efforts should be made to maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet. The Residential Colleges Office will provide 2 reusable, cloth masks to each student, in addition to masks provided by the University. Face coverings are required while indoors (including in classrooms, libraries, auditoriums, meeting spaces and residence hall common areas), and outdoors if unable to maintain proper social distancing. Students who seek an exception to this policy because they are unable to wear a face covering due to a medical condition should contact the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services (OARS).

If you experience any of the symptoms below, please contact Student Health Services at 336-334-5340 to schedule an appointment with a provider to determine if testing for COVID 19 is indicated:

• Fever or chills
• Cough
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Fatigue
• Muscle or body aches
• Headache
• New loss of taste or smell
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea

UNCG has created a process for students, faculty, and staff to self report COVID-19 cases. If you experience COVID-19 symptoms, test positive for COVID-19 (or a health care provider tells you that you are presumed positive), or if someone in your immediate household tests positive, please notify the university by filling out the form at go.uncg.edu/selfreport. This procedure is voluntary, and the information submitted will be shared only with limited University officials to make a determination if additional cleaning and other response actions need to be taken on campus.

OFFICE HOURS:

Residential College instructors and staff will maintain office hours which will be in person, online or a combination of both.  Please refer to your course syllabi for information about your instructors’ office hours. Residential Colleges program staff will post details about office hours on program bulletin boards in the residence halls and on the programs’ websites. If you have any questions about office hours, please feel free to contact your instructors and RC staff.

CO-CURRICULARS

For Fall 2020, each Residential College will have a Fall Orientation, Core Lecture/Guest Lecture, and one additional tradition/event to be offered virtually or in a hybrid format that maintains social distancing and the 10-person-indoor/25-person-outdoor group limit. Each Residential College will create smaller communities within each program by mobilizing Residential College student leadership to facilitate small group virtual meetings, activities, movie nights, etc. Your ideas for program activities and events are always welcome!

ADVISING:

In Fall 2020, advising will occur virtually through individual advising appointments with Residential College advisors: Dr. Chrissy Flood for Ashby, Dr. Sarah Colonna for Grogan and Mrs. Anne Barton for Strong.  During advising for spring registration, the advisors will email students with RC-specific advising and registration plans, including the RCO Course Registration Booklet and directions about how to register for Spring 2021 courses.
