For Students with Disabilities

Students with hearing disabilities who benefit from use of an interpreter at their educational institution should communicate their presentation through American (ASL) or International (ISL) Sign Language on camera with the assistance of an interpreter who will voice the presentation off camera. Please note, only the student presenter and the poster should be visible in the supporting video presentation.

Every presentation should be made using PowerPoint, which is available through iSPARTAN (https://ispartan.uncg.edu/apps/)

Posters

• How to Create an Effective Poster Presentation Workshop Slides
• Materials: Save your poster as a PPT within PowerPoint. This can be done in most software by going to File > Save As, and changing the file type to a PDF.
• Presentation: Record a short video presenting your topic. This can easily be done through PowerPoint. For guidance, Microsoft has a useful step-by-step guide to recording a presentation with narration.

Oral Presentations

• Presentation: Record a video of your presentation using the method of your choice. One suggest method is recording a PowerPoint with narration, which creates a video file you can easily share. For guidance, Microsoft has a useful step-by-step guide to recording a presentation with narration.

Performances

• Materials: Record a video of your performance using the method of your choice. The video can be recorded using a camera or smartphone and uploaded to YouTube. When filming, adjust the camera view so that both you and your subject materials are captured in the shot at all times. Please be sure that the video is not zooming just on your face, zooming on portions of the poster, or alternating between you and the poster.
• Presentation: Embed the video of your performance into a PowerPoint. Microsoft has a useful guide to embedding video in PowerPoint presentations here. Once your PowerPoint is ready, record a narration explaining your research or project. For guidance, Microsoft has a useful step-by-step guide to recording a presentation with narration.

Exhibits (Installations)

• Materials: Create a PowerPoint with images and explanations of your exhibit.
• Presentation: Once your PowerPoint is ready, record a narration explaining your research or project. For guidance, Microsoft has a useful step-by-step guide to recording a presentation with narration.

The video should capture you explaining your project in 5 minutes or less. The video is designed for the viewers and judges (where appropriate) to watch you present as if you were at an in-person session.

Before submitting, make sure you’ve met the requirements for your presentation outlined above (Creating Your Virtual Presentation), then follow these guidelines for your video:

• Log into YouTube either using your UNCG login or your own account. Upload your presentation video to your channel. A helpful guide can be found here.
• Title your video using the lead presenter’s name as such: [last name, first name]2020_UNCG_TURCE
• In the video description, be sure to include the title of your research, abstract, and a paragraph explaining the virtual expo.

IMPORTANT: If you do not submit your presentation with the requested materials, your presentation will not be included in the 2020 Virtual Expo! Make sure you’ve followed the guidelines for your presentation and for uploading to YouTube.

All submissions are due on or before April 13.
